Biography of Nguyen Quang Huy

Dr. Huy is a microbiologist and molecular biologist with interests in pathogenic microorganisms, drug resistance, evolution and infectious diseases. He received a Diploma degree in Biotechnology from the Hanoi Open University in 2008. He then joined the research group of Prof. Dang Thi Cam Ha at the Institute of Biotechnology (IBT) – Vietnam Academy of Science and Technology (VAST) from 2008 – 2012. In Prof. Ha’s laboratory, he studied the biodiversity and the role of microorganisms in biodegradation of persistent organic pollutants. His works were also characterized laccase and peroxidase enzymes from microorganisms that have been applied recently in agricultural, medical and pharmaceutical industries. In 2010, he pursued a master program in Biomedicine at the University of Science and Technology of Hanoi (USTH), In 2012, he moved to Laboratory of Tuberculosis, National Institute of Hygiene and Epidemiology (NIHE) to perform master thesis under the supervision of Dr. Nguyen Thi Van Anh (NIHE) and Dr. Anne-Laure Banuls (MIVEGEC, Institute of Research for Development – IRD, Montpellier). His thesis focused on dealing with multi-drug drug resistance in tuberculosis. He then joined to Dr. Van Anh’s lab and continued PhD thesis in both laboratories under the supervision of Dr. Van Anh and Dr. Banuls. His PhD works were focused on the genetic determinants and evolution of drug resistance in Mycobacterium tuberculosis in Vietnam. He was awarded Doctoral Diploma by the University of Montpellier in 2016. Afterwards, he continues his research in the framework of the LMI Drug Resistance in South East Asia project (LMI DRISA). He has been recruited as lecturer - researcher by the USTH and currently, he is a coordinator of the Bachelor program in Medical Science and Technology. His current research focuses on the characterization of antimicrobial agents, genetic determinants and evolution of drug resistance in pathogenic bacteria.
